Role:

Method of Delivery:

Presentation, Promotional Website and Video, Prototype

Tools:

Canva, Figma, Shotcut

Overview:

Waste Not is an application which helps consumers make informed decisions about the longevity and safety of their grocery purchases in an effort to reduce food waste. They can view expiry and best before dates, and other relevant storage and handling information from national agencies. They can join communities to barter or give away excess items.

Research:

A survey was conducted to determine the viability of the product and the results revealed that no one criticized the idea but provided meaningful suggestions for improvements and things to consider. While speaking with people about the project, they expressed the lack of knowledge about similar platforms. One respondent to the survey even mentioned that they are aware of another platform/app but they don’t trust it.

Implementation:

A paper prototype of the application was used for usability testing and the feedback did not meet some of my expectations. With respect to using the various login methods to complete the test, once they were directed to use only one method it seems that the task became tedious to the user. Also, the home screen still needs a bit more work to comply with UX design rules and ensure the users can navigate it effectively. I thought it was a good idea to have an official email to connote the serious nature of that process which will assure users that their information is safe.
